8 Signs You Need New Tyres Now

    • Tread depth at or below 1.6mm, the UAE legal minimum. Use the 20-fils coin test.
    • Tread wear indicator bars are now flush with the tread surface.
    • Visible cracks, cuts or bulges on the sidewall.
    • Steering wheel vibration at 80–120 km/h, which points to imbalance or internal damage.
    • The car pulls left or right under braking, a sign of uneven wear or an alignment fault.
    • The tyre is 5 or more years old. Dubai heat degrades rubber even when tread looks fine.
    • Repeated slow punctures from the same tyre, a sign the casing is compromised.
    • The TPMS warning stays on after inflating to the correct pressure.

Why Dubai Heat Destroys Tyres Faster

    The thermal degradation problem

Tyre compounds are tested at 20–25°C. Dubai road surfaces regularly reach 70–80°C in summer, more than three times hotter. At these temperatures the rubber softens, the plasticisers that keep it flexible evaporate faster, and UV accelerates sidewall cracking. A 5-year lifespan in the UK becomes about 3 years in Dubai.

    The speed factor

Main UAE highways run at 120–140 km/h, and sustained speed builds heat through flex and friction. A tyre at 140 km/h runs roughly 20°C hotter inside than one at 80 km/h. Add hot asphalt and it is clear why speed-rated tyres (H, V, W or Y) are essential here.

    Recommended replacement intervals for Dubai

    • Replace on age: at 5 years, whatever the tread depth.
    • Replace on tread: at 2–3mm for a safety margin. The legal limit is 1.6mm.
    • Rotate every 10,000 km. It evens out wear and extends life by 15–20%.
    • Check pressure monthly, because Dubai heat makes it fluctuate more.

Puncture Repair: Can It Be Fixed or Does It Need Replacing?

A puncture can be repaired when

The damage is in the central tread area, not the shoulder or sidewall. The object is 6mm across or smaller. The tyre was not driven on while flat. There is no secondary damage to the bead or sidewall. A proper plug-and-patch method is used, not a plug on its own.

A puncture cannot be repaired when

The damage is on the sidewall. The tyre was driven flat, which compromises the internal structure. The object is larger than 6mm across. There are several punctures in the same tyre. A run-flat tyre was driven on after losing pressure.

How to Check If Your Tyres Need Replacing (5 Steps)

    1. Do the 20-fils coin test. Push a 20-fils coin into the main tread grooves. If you can see the whole face of the coin, tread is at or below 1.6mm, the UAE legal minimum. For safety, replace at 2–3mm.
    2. Inspect the sidewalls. Look closely at both the inner and outer sidewalls. Any bulge, blister or deep crack means the tyre should be replaced before you drive again, because sidewall failure at motorway speed is catastrophic.
    3. Check the manufacture date. Find the 4-digit DOT code on the sidewall: "2219" means week 22 of 2019. If the tyre is over 5 years old, replace it in Dubai heat regardless of tread depth.
    4. Look for uneven wear. Run your hand across the tread. Wear in the centre only means over-inflation, wear on both edges means under-inflation, and wear on one side means an alignment fault. Fix the cause when you replace the tyres.
    5. Note warning lights or vibration. A TPMS warning after inflating, or steering vibration above 80 km/h, needs an inspection. Internal belt separation causes vibration before a blowout, so do not ignore it.

    Frequently Asked Questions

40,000–60,000 km on a sedan, 30,000–50,000 km on a heavy luxury SUV. We replace at 1.6 mm tread by law, but recommend at 3 mm in this climate.
Premium (Michelin, Pirelli, Continental) for any car driven above 140 km/h or carrying weight. Mid-range Hankook/Yokohama is excellent value for daily sedans.
Front and rear pairs at minimum. AWD/4WD cars (Range Rover, X5, GLE, Cayenne) should be replaced as a full set to protect the transfer case and differentials.
A free alignment CHECK is included. Full 4-wheel alignment is AED 150–300 depending on car — required after fitting new tyres if the check fails.
BMW, Mini and some Mercedes use run-flat tyres. We stock matching run-flats; mixing run-flats with regular tyres is unsafe and we won't do it.
